Orb by Ardea Games

Orb has an exciting array of confiugurable features, designed to assist in the neurofeedback training process.

Orb provides visual feedback to users in three ways:

  1. An Elemental Orb in the Center of the Screen
  2. A Spedometer-Like Progress Bar
  3. Individual Thermometer Bars for Each Trace

When in a rewardable state, the speedometer bar progresses, and as it progresses the orb transforms into more complex and engaging shapes. As the person training comes out of a rewardable state, rather than resetting, to offer the person training encouragement, the speedometer turns to the last highlighted checkpoint. As rewards are triggered, the orb faintly glows. With a full rotation of the speedometer, a new level with more special effects is triggered.

The default time necessary to remain on task to proceed to the next level is 10s. Occasionally, a clinician will want to adjust this setting lower or higher in the game options. People training with Orb may respond to such changes in difficulty to facilitate progress to the upper levels. Orb can also be set to increase difficulty incrementally to modulate training rewards and level progress. And of course the traditional thermometer bars allow visual feedback for each individual filtered trace.

Orb includes five unique element types. When installing Orb, the default is the Water element, but this default can be changed both during installation and later in the Tailor Installed Games tool. If clients find that there is too much information on the screen to focus, the transparency of the speedometer and the thermometer bars can also be adjusted in the Tailor Installed Games tool, and can even be turned off altogether.

To install orb, follow the instructions below:

  1. Navigate to EEGer's support site and locate Orb in the list of downloadable games.
  2. Download Orb and run the installer. If the computer used with EEGer does not have access to the internet, the feedback display can be downloaded on a device with access to the internet and transferred to the EEGer computer using an external storage device (hard drive, flash drive, etc.).

  4. Open EEGer and navigate to Tools>Game Initialization Tool from the top toolbar of EEGer's main screen.
  5. After a moment, a list of installed games should appear. Click Done-Save Configuration at the bottom of the menu.
  6. Click SAVE all games at the bottom of the next menu and return to EEGer's main screen.
  7. The new game should now be installed, and can be selected when running a live or replay session.
