Ardea Games Not Opening or Crashing
An issue present with newer computer and sometimes computers receiving Windows updates can cause Ardea Games feedback displays to stop functioning correctly.
This issue is characterised by the feedback displays failing to appear on the second monitor when launched from within EEGer. Instead, they may appear for only a moment before closing and returning to the default games screen (list of installed games). Parts of the game may continue to run in the background, and the user can not return to select another game until all parts of the game are closed in the background.
This error is caused by the computer missing critical files which the feedback displays need to function. These files are intended to be a base part of Windows, but may not be included on some computers (and may be removed or overwritten after Windows Updates). By reinstalling these files, the games will be able to open correctly as intended and work with EEGer for live feedback. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to the Microsoft Downloads page for these specific files by clicking this link.
- On the page that appears, click the Download button.
- An overlay will appear asking which files to install - check the boxes for the following files: vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe
- Once these files are selected, press Next in the bottom-right of the overlay.
- The download will begin - depending on the web browser being used, it may be neccesary to specify where to save these files or to allow the web browser to download multiple files at once.
- Once downloaded, run the installers, accepting the default options to repair an existing installation or install missing files.
- Once both installers have finished installing, restart the computer.
- Open EEGer and run a live or replay session using an Ardea Games feedback display - observe if the issue is resolved and that the games correctly open.
